Policies
Information & policies
Key information about how this website works — privacy, the newsletter, cookies, copyright, advertising and ownership.
Privacy & data
Nordic Road & Transport Research is owned by the Swedish National Road and Transport Research Institute (VTI), which is responsible for the personal data handled on this website. It is processed as described in VTI’s information on personal data. Newsletter subscriptions are based on your consent, which you can withdraw at any time.
You have the right to know what personal data VTI holds about you and how it is used, and to have it corrected or erased. Send requests and questions about privacy to vti@vti.se. As VTI is a government agency, messages sent to it become official documents and may be disclosed under the principle of public access to official records.
You can also contact VTI’s Data Protection Officer at dataskyddsombud@vti.se. If you wish to complain about how VTI processes personal data, contact the supervisory authority, the Swedish Authority for Privacy Protection (IMY).
The site contains links to other websites; when you follow them, their own privacy policies apply.
Newsletter
When you sign up for the newsletter, your email address goes directly to IDRelay, the service that sends the newsletter. It is not stored on this website. The address is used only to send you the newsletter. Every newsletter has a link to unsubscribe, or email vti@vti.se and we will remove you.
Cookies & analytics
We use Matomo, run on our own server, to understand how the site is used. Your visit is counted without cookies unless you allow them in the cookie banner. If you accept, Matomo sets cookies so that it can recognise a returning visitor. The data stays with us and is never used for advertising.
The site sets no other cookies. Your choice is remembered in your browser’s local storage, not in a cookie. YouTube videos are embedded in privacy-enhanced mode, which sets no cookies until you play a video; once you do, YouTube’s own privacy policy applies.
Accessibility
We want everyone to be able to read and use this website, whichever device, browser or assistive technology they use. The site is built to meet the Web Content Accessibility Guidelines (WCAG) 2.2 at level AA. Accessibility is part of how every page and feature is designed, built and reviewed, not something added afterwards.
In practice this means that:
- Everything can be reached and used with a keyboard alone, in a logical order, with a visible focus marker and a “Skip to content” link first on every page.
- Pages are built with real headings, landmarks and lists, so that screen readers and other assistive technology can give an overview of a page and move between its parts.
- Form fields, buttons and icons have text labels, and changes on a page, such as a filtered or searched list of publications, are announced to screen readers.
- Carousels are moved with previous and next buttons. They never require dragging and never advance by themselves.
- Animation is kept to a minimum when your device is set to reduce motion.
- Text and controls are designed for sufficient colour contrast, and the layout adapts to small screens and to enlarged text.
The site is not yet fully compliant. We know of the following limitations:
- Many images in older publications, which were moved over from an earlier version of the site, have no text alternative.
- Documents linked from publications, such as PDF files, were produced by the publishing institutions and may not be fully accessible.
If something does not work for you, or you need the content of a page in another format, email vti@vti.se and tell us which page it concerns and what you were trying to do.
The website is run by VTI, a Swedish government agency, and is covered by the Swedish Act on Accessibility of Digital Public Services. If you are not satisfied with how we respond, you can report the problem to the Agency for Digital Government (Digg), which supervises the act.
This statement was last reviewed on 22 October 2026 and is based on our own review of the site.
Reproduction & copyright
Reproduction and quotation of the texts are allowed if reference is made to the author and source. However, legislation regulates and restricts the right to reproduce the illustrations — please contact the respective publishing institution for information.
Advertising
Advertising is not accepted on this website.
Ownership & contact
The website is owned and operated by VTI on behalf of the four Nordic institutes. General enquiries: vti@vti.se. Full contact details for each institute are on the About page.
